WinGpT v1.2 (c) AKi, Gp ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What does it do? ================ It is a program, that inserts various (mostly) one-line comments, tags or taglines, jokes or other texts into your mail or other documents. Requirements ================ There are no special hardware requirements. All you need is Windows 95/98/NT or 2000 system installed. Where can I use it? ================ You can use it in any of your preferred word processors or e-mail writers, such as WinWord, Notepad, WordPad, Outlook Express, Netscape Communicator, etc. Any program that accepts keystrokes is adequate. How does it work? ================ After running it for the first time, you must set the preferences on the Options panel. See Installation and Options sections for further details. You must first provide at least one file containing taglines, from which later on WinGpT picks tags and when pressing a hot-key combination inserts them into your text, simulating keystrokes, as if you were writing it. You can always check if WinGpT is loaded, enabled, disabled or in automatic mode. When loaded a splash screen is displayed and an icon in the system tray area, near the clock. If the icon is grayish, WinGpT is disabled. If the icon is red and green, WinGpT is enabled and is responding to hot key combination. If the icon has gray background and yellow text AUTO GPT, it is in automatic mode. By double clicking the system tray icon you can quickly activate/deactivate it or access the Options panel. You can also access the Options panel and other settings by right clicking on the system tray icon to display a popup menu. About WinGpT ================ Displays various information concerning authors and the program itself. Options... ================ The Options panel is showed. See Options section for further details. Enable/Disable WinGpT ================ Same as double clicking the system tray icon, it enables or disables WinGpT. This option is whidden when WinGpT is in automatic mode. Exit WinGpT ================ Terminates the program. Installation ================ WinGpT is a standalone program. All it needs is a special dynamic library (WinGpTHK.DLL), which will be created on your disk when first starting the WinGpT executable. Included in the package are some sample taglines (*.GPT files). For more details about taglines structure, read Taglines section. All you really need to do is to create a shortcut on your desktop or toolbar and run the program when needed, or set the Auto start option in the Options panel. The preferences will be restored next time you start WinGpT. To uninstall WinGpT follow the instructions in Uninstall section. Taglines ================ Taglines may contain any text desired, except the following characters: * any accented character, * characters with ASCII code less than 32, except #13 * left or right bracket {}, * ~ (tilde) character, because it is a reserved character. If WinGpT encounters such a character whilst inserting the tagline into your text, a warning notice will be displayed. Maximum length of the tagline is 512 characters. If the tagline is longer, it is trimmed to the maximum length. You can achieve longer tags by using some of the special rules described later in the section. Some of the special characters and rules allow the taglines to be multi-line. If a tagline contains a ~ (tilde) character, a line feed will be inserted in that part, thus creating a multi-line tag. The same effect has the character with ASCII code 227 and ASCII code 13, for DOS compatibility. If you wish to insert such a character, you can do it in the following way: insert the # (hash) character in the tag, followed by an ASCII code of the character, you would like to insert. In this case, the inserted text would look like this #227. Example: First line.#227Second line. First line.#13Second line. First line.~Second line. Result: First line. Second line. All the three examples would produce the exactly same result. If you want to insert a # character in a tagline, just enter two. Example: There is a hash ## sign here. Result: There is a hash # sign here. A special char, ASCII code 255, is used for repetition purposes. Followed by a character and number of its repetition can save you tag length and typing. The procedure is the same as above. Insert #255 code, then the character and the repetitions count. A character itself can be used or its ASCII code. The number of the repetitions must be preceded by a # character. Example: Ten asterisks from here#255*#10 to here. Ten asterisks from here#255#42#10 to here. Both examples would produce the same result. Result: Ten asterisks from here**********to here. Check some of the sample taglines to get a better idea of it.. Options ================ General settings ================ * Automatically start WinGpT when starting Windows If the check box is marked, WinGpT will be automatically started everytime you start the Windows system. * Pick tags sequentially Tags are selected in random order. If you mark this check box, only the first tag will be selected randomly, others will follow it as specified in taglines file. Each tag is selected only once, until all tags from the tagfile are selected. Then, the cycle repeats but, obviously, in a different order. * Activate WinGpT manually By double clicking the tray icon or selecting the appropriate menu option you can activate or deactivate WinGpT at any given moment. If this option is selected, WinGpT will be active when started if the WinGpT is active when started is checked. When WinGpT is active, the tray icon is red and green, with the WIN GPT caption. When WinGpT is not active, the tray icon is completely dark gray, with the light gray WIN GPT caption. * Activate WinGpT automatically You can create a list of desired programs or windows and WinGpT will be active only when those programs will be run and focused. Example: Put your favourite e-mail program on the Trigger programs list and whenever run, WinGpT will be active, otherwise it will not respond to the hotkey combination. Read the Trigger programs section to learn how to add a program to the Trigger programs list. When WinGpT is in automatic mode, the tray icon is dark gray, with the yellow AUTO GPT caption. * Uninstall WinGpT will remove all the registry entries and additional files, created during the installation process. The tagline files will not be deleted, the disk directory structure will remain intact and the executable file will not be deleted. You must remove them manually. Click the Prepare to uninstall button and follow the instructions. Taglines ================ * Tagline files Specify the files containing your taglines. Click on Add button to open a dialog window or enter the filepath and filename manually. When the file is specified, you can edit it in Notepad (if installed on your computer) simply by clicking the Edit file button. To remove a tagline file from the list, select it and press the Remove button. To correct or change a file name, select it, press Edit entry button and enter a new filename. At least one tagline file must be specified, otherwise an error is reported. Signature ================ * Signature text A signature text is the text written every time you press the hot key combination. It can contain your signature, additional info and, of course, a tagline. All rules and special codes concerning taglines also apply here. A special code is used to indicate the position of the tagline. Use two percent characters (%%) in the place where you would like to insert the tag. The signature text must contain those tho characters or an error is reported. Signature example: This is a signature sample.~It contains some special codes just to show you the effects.~Here is where the tag will be placed: %%~So, what do you think of it?~#255#32#30AndraZ Result: This is a signature sample. It contains some special codes just to show you the effects. Here is where the tag will be placed: [tagline] So, what do you think of it? AndraZ To check the alignment in different fonts, use the Set font option to adjust and set the desired font in the signature test windows. * Auto add spaces after every line break When using multi-line taglines, you can simply left align them (if needed) by specifying the number of preceeding spaces for every new line containing text. Press Test or Test multi-line button to test the specified signature with a sigle-line or multi-line tagline. The results are displayed in the text box below the buttons. Hot key ================ When WinGpT is active it is invoked every time you press a hot key combination or a single key. Valid keys are: * letters A to Z, * numbers from 0 to 9, * function keys from F1 to F12. A combination is composed by a single of the abovementioned keys and/or Ctrl key and/or Shift key. Some valid combinations are: F10, Ctrl-Shift+A, Shift+F12, etc. Pick your own, so it doesn't interfere with the program running when using WinGpT. Place the cursor in the edit-box and simply press the key combination you would like to use. The combination will be recorded, displayed and saved. Programs ================ * Trigger programs When WinGpT is in automatic mode it will be activated only when you work in a program that is specified in the Trigger programs list. To Add a program to the list simply press the Add button. Read the instructions and press Ok. The operation will be cancelled if you press Cancel. The Options panel will disappear. Now start the program you would like to add to the list. Select the window in which WinGpT will be active and press Insert (Ins) button on your keyboard. All you have to do next is enter a description for that window or program name. The program or, to be more precise, one of its windows is added to the list. Repeat the procedure for all the desired windows or programs. To cancel the operation press Cancel button when entering the program description. To cancel the operation whilst selecting the window or a program, right click the WinGpT tray icon and select Options. A message dialog will appear, asking you if you would like to cancel the operation. To rename a program or its description, select it and press Edit name button. Help ================ You're reading it right now! About ================ Displays various information concerning authors and the program itself. If any of the settings is invalid or missing, an error will appear informing you of it. Warranty ================ None whatsoever. WinGpT is mostly harmless. It is up to you to do something stupid, so don't blame this program if something goes wrogn. If not altered, WinGpT performs only actions as described above. The authors will not be at any time and at any circumstance responsible for anything. Credits ================ DOS version (GpT) was written by Primoz Gabrijelcic.
